CHPS 4: Low Emitting Materials

CHPS EQ P6.0 Low Emitting Materials

Many common building materials contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), harmful pollutants that are inhaled by occupants and can cause respiratory and other health issues. By focusing on installing low emitting VOC materials throughout the building, we can reduce these harmful effects and provide better indoor air quality for the safety and health of students, faculty and staff. In order to target the main materials within the building, low emitting materials were implemented in the following categories:

  • Paints & Coatings
  • Flooring Systems
  • Composite Wood
In Miller Middle School, you can see those low emitting materials show up in the natural wood floors & doors, cabinets & countertops, low VOC paint, carpets, ceramic tile, glass, metal, and concrete.
