Leadership

Vernadette Norman, Principal

Headshot of Vernadette NormanI am thrilled and honored to be chosen as the new principal of Miller Middle School.  I have been a proud educator for over 20 years; serving as an early childhood educator, Instructional Coach, Special Education resource teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and area Lead Principal in the Albuquerque Public School District. In my last role as Principal of Ventana Ranch Elementary School, I voiced pride in our community, recruited and fostered teachers and staff, made retention of staff and students a priority, and oversaw the design and construction of a new facility on campus. I’m so proud to bring that experience to this amazing school community, as I work with all of you to ensure that our Miller Angels keep flying high!  My philosophy of education and management both come down to one important point: Do what is best for kids. I pride myself on being committed to creating a welcoming place for children to learn; while supporting high academic expectations, student safety, and promoting a positive teaching environment for success. Working with the administrative team, teachers, support staff, and parents, I will do my part to ensure that the entire learning atmosphere mirrors the commitment to the mission and vision of our school and district. After several years of commuting, I will finally be joining my partner, Scot Davis, and am excited to be blending families and making new friendships. I'm also looking forward to having more time to learn the craft of beekeeping, raising chickens, and learning the trails of Durango with my dogs. I look forward to meeting and partnering with all of you, and being the leader I would choose to follow.

Kalyn Knestrick, Assistant Principal

Headshot of Kalyn KnestrickI am proud to be the new Vice Principal at Miller Middle School. As I begin my tenth year in education, I am excited to transition to this role. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and am proud to now call Durango home. I began my educational career as a high school science teacher and then as middle school science teacher at Miller. I have been a content specialist as well as a district coordinator. My husband and I are loving every second raising our 1-year-old daughter, Penelope. In my free time I am usually running, biking, walking my dogs, and spending time with my loved ones. Miller is an amazing school and I am honored to serve as your Vice Principal.

Headshot of Doug GeyganI am proud to have served for three years as principal of Miller Middle School. Before that, I was the principal of Riverview Elementary School for ten years. I remain committed to the success of all our students, and I will continue my service as one of two assistant principals at Miller. We have made great strides in increasing student achievement, improving student culture, and strengthening relationships with families and community members. I am confident that these successes will continue under the leadership of our new principal.
