Summer Learning Program Available

Durango School District 9-R recognizes the opportunity gaps that COVID has created for our learners. This summer, we are creating a summer learning program for students in Kindergarten-5th grade who have experienced a loss of access to instruction that has resulted in below grade-level math and reading achievement.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Update - May 28,2021

District leaders have recently received recommendations from three work groups: The Culture and Equity Design Team, the Significant Disproportionality Work Group, and the Native American Parental Advisory Committee. Their recommendations will guide the district in strategic planning to continue addressing concerns of inequity within our system.

Mask Requirements for Students

Governor Polis recently issued new guidance on the use of masks. Schools and child care centers are required to continue the use of masks as a mitigation effort against COVID-19 until June 1, 2021. Recognizing, the last day of school is June 3, 2021 (with no school in session on June 2, 2021 as it is a remote learning day), there will be no changes to our mask requirements for this school year.

9-R Shared School Now Enrolling

Durango 9-R's Shared School program is currently taking students for the 2021-2022 school year. The Shared School program is designed for homeschool families and offers classes such as art, music, drama, PE, yoga, Spanish and homeroom enrichment.

The Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado Donations to 9-R Reach $2M

The Community Foundation Serving Southwest Colorado (SWCF) has a long-standing commitment from donors for educational opportunities in the region. In the past 10 years, total donations from one anonymous family for Durango School District 9-R (9-R) through the SWCF have now reached $2M, with the most recent donation of $200,000 to support the future Career Technical Education (CTE) Building that is being funded by the recent 4A Bond dollars.

Durango 9-R Bond Community Sustainability Questionnaire - Capital Projects

The Board of Education and Bond Oversight Committee are seeking community feedback regarding sustainability related to capital projects and our new bond. Listening sessions will be held on June 1st and 2nd to get further clarification on thoughts, concepts, ideas, and definitions surrounding sustainability and how the bond program could best address those.

Middle School Summer Weights 2021

Dates -Starting Monday, June 21st –Thursday, July 22nd 

(week off July 4th – July 11th)  

Meets Monday - Thursday, on DHS track (no Fridays)

Time -  8:30 to 9:30 am. 

Cost – $100 

Daily routine  

Dynamic warm up and hurdle mobility (5 min) 

Muscle Activation (5 min) 

Foam rolling and soft tissue work (5 min) 

Speed or multi directional footwork (15 min) 

Strength and core (30 min) 

Importance of doing summer workouts 

Injury prevention  

Increase speed and quickness 

Increase relative strength 

Team building for upcoming season 

How do you pay?   Cash or Check (make checks payable to Durango High School). 

You can pay anytime prior or the day the camp starts. If you want to pay early please turn your money into the front office of DHS, in an envelope with, 

“Attention David Vogt Summer Camp Payment”  They will put it in my mailbox.

Cohorts to Quarantine - 5.19.21

Between May 11 and May 19, 2021, 9-R was notified by San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) that individuals in three cohorts at Durango High School, individuals on two bus routes, two club organizations, a cohort at Miller Middle School, and a cohort at Needham Elementary School went into quarantine due to exposure to a positive COVID-19 case. The schools and the district are working proactively with the SJBPH to make the appropriate notifications and next steps for those who may have been in close contact with those individuals.
