Starting Wednesday, February 15, our eighth-grade boys and girls will have the opportunity to take part in a truly unique experiential program! During the last hour of school, for 10 consecutive weeks, they may elect to be part of a leadership group of 10-12 boys or girls, mentored by trained and caring adults from the community. These groups, which are gender specific, will engage in safe conversations around positive self-image, healthy relationships, and advocacy. The curriculum – which will teach them important leadership and mentoring skills – features topics such as examining masculine stereotypes in the media, becoming non-violent leaders, and engaging in education for boys; and explores self-expression, setting and achieving goals and leadership. Students who complete the program will have a special role at the May 4, 2017 Keys to High School Success annual conference. If your son or daughter is interested in this opportunity, please sign the permission slip return it to our school office as soon as possible. Attached are some informational flyers about the programs, which also include the permission forms. Feel free to download the form and drop it by your school or contact the school or the school’s counseling office to request more information or to obtain a permission form. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
