This is true whether it be rallying around student emotional or academic need, or coming together to celebrate sporting events or musical concerts. We are blessed to have such a great community!
Some of our most recent celebrations have been in what we see every day in our classrooms. Students have been tracking their learning in learning logs, proficiency ladders and interactive journals, to make sure they understand the learning targets in all classrooms. They have been working hard to stay organized in their binders, lockers and planners. There has been much focus on thinking, whether it be building on background knowledge, visualizing learning, monitoring for meaning, synthesizing information, and the list goes on. These are all areas that support our overall goal of increasing students’ ownership of their learning, and our teachers are doing a great job of having lessons that involve students in “work time” where they are responsible to put in effort to learn and take hold of their understanding of the skills and content provided for them.
We also have had many celebrations outside of the classroom. Our athletic teams have all had very successful seasons. Our Girls’ Volleyball teams all had deep runs in their regional tournaments and our Boys’ Football and Basketball teams brought home league championships! In addition, our music program students have held a couple of great concerts this year that filled our auditorium with wonderful music. They have also traveled to other schools and area nursing homes to bring this joy to others. We recently had our 7th grade team travel to Fort Lewis College and for an engaging field study. Our 8th grade students are leaving their classrooms during our University class time and are visiting 6th grade classrooms to become teachers themselves, as they teach 6th graders DaVinci principles of learning. Learning is alive in all aspects of Miller near and abroad and we are super proud of our students.
As we come near to the second semester we ask that you continue to celebrate with us and support your students in these great efforts. We are blessed to have such a great learning community and are glad that you are a part of it.
