December 2025 bond update: Design, housing, and facility milestones mark year-end progress

Citizen Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC)

The CBOC continues monthly meetings to oversee the bond planning and implementation process, ensure alignment with ballot language, and review the bond budget.

Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC)

The LRPC last met in November to continue development of a long-term school replacement plan and discuss potential reuse of the Florida Mesa Elementary School (FMES) campus once Three Springs Elementary School opens. Current ideas include using the building to extend and expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming. The committee will reconvene in January and plans to bring formal recommendations to the Board of Education in spring 2026.

Three Springs Elementary School

The Design Advisory Group Steering Committee continues refining plans, with user group meetings now well underway. In November, the district hosted a First Look event at CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital, and we had a great crowd! Design remains on schedule, and we are working with the City of Durango and GRVP to finalize subdivision and platting for the site.

Workforce housing

Over the past three months, the Housing Advisory Committee met to help guide the development of housing policies, establish rental rate parameters, and determine what factors should be considered for the housing-lottery process. The Board of Education approved recommended rental rates in December. Next steps include finalizing the housing policies guidelines, launching a staff-facing website to facilitate effective communication, and rolling out the application process. We hope to have this information finalized and communicated in Q1 2026, with housing becoming available to staff as early as Q2 2026.

Elimination of leased facilities

The district’s warehouse lease expires Dec. 31, 2025. Throughout December, teams moved into permanent locations—Technology to the District Administration Office and Facilities/Custodial to the newly purchased warehouse. Renovation work continues on the new Durango Big Picture High School (DBPHS) facility, with a move-in date set for fall 2026. We are proud to have accomplished this goal so quickly (just one year after passage of the bond in November 2024).
