Update from Superintendent Dan Snowberger


Please understand that we will not be permitting parents or students into schools at this time to retrieve student supplies. The district will be setting up a schedule for such access to happen over the next couple of weeks.  Please do not attempt to access your child’s school at this time.  

Accessing Student Work

Each school will have a “Student Materials Pickup” box located in the front of the school.  While most work will be available online, we recognize that some parents have indicated a desire for materials to be picked up or mailed.  Materials will be ready for pick up in those school site boxes beginning on Wednesday evening or Thursday. This time lag should reduce as systems are in place to expedite copying and assembly.  Those mailed will likely have an additional 2-3 day delay. 


Student Attendance

The district will be asking for parents to support a daily communication around attendance starting on Wednesday.  It will also be a communication vehicle to alert teachers and school leaders of challenges you may be experiencing. This will not only allow the district and teachers to track student work and time, but it is equally important for the district to have to report student learning days.  More information is forthcoming about student attendance procedures.


Preparation for Learning

Teachers will have access to several options on how to reach out to students and keep in touch on homework. Many of the online tools may be used for students who have access, including the Google Suite (which includes Google Meets, Google Hangout and Google Classrooms).  It is always great to create a learning environment for your child that helps promote a quiet and focused space for learning. We have shared some ideas below on how you can go about preparing that space in your home. Additionally, you will receive information directly from your child’s teacher(s) later this week on how to expect work to be delivered and office hours of availability for virtual connection with students and parents.  We appreciate your patience as we all prepare for our first day of learning on Wednesday, March 25.

We are all working very hard to keep a safe working environment for staff, many of whom will be working remotely.  We appreciate your part in supporting the reduction of the spread of the virus by practicing social distancing, applying and modeling good hygiene for your children, supporting your community first responders and healthcare workers, and continuing to patronize our local businesses.  Together we can get through this, and we truly appreciate your partnership.
