This great new program allows the school district to “own our own herd” as well as have full control over its beef supply, guaranteeing fresher beef options on the menu. Working with Sunnyside Meats for humane and local processing, these options add to the high-quality, made from scratch, locally sourced options you find throughout the District’s nutritional and delicious school meal options, which include both breakfast and lunch options, and unlimited salad bars at our schools.
Families can now also participate in the farm-to-school program and support the ongoing efforts of the school district to maintain this program in its schools. Special and just in time for the holidays, the district is offering Specialty Gourmet Beef Boxes. These are the fine cuts of our own, locally sourced beef, including favorites like NY Steak and Ribeye. Check out the many gift box options, and spoil yourself and your loved ones with some fine meats for upcoming holiday meals and celebrations. There are options for any budget, starting at $50! But quantities are limited so be sure to order yours today before they all sell out! Available while limited supplies last, just in time for the perfect holiday meal or gift. All boxes must be picked up on the designated pick up date, which is December 18, between 3 and 6pm unless other arrangements are made.

About Nutrition Services
Durango School District 9-R is well-known for its innovative, healthy and delicious school meal program. As examples:
- The District has the Farm-to-School program since 2006, working with local farmers and ranchers to put the best, local fresh produce and meats on the tables for students.
- Our Nutrition Services received a grant to bring new salad bars to our all the schools, bringing fresh local fruits and vegetables to an unlimited salad bar option in all schools.
- We’ve launched our distribution center, a first of its kind in the region, making Farm-to-School options more easily available to surrounding, rural school districts.
- In partnership with the Durango High School DECA/Marketing class, the Nutrition Services Department launched grab-n-go breakfasts and lunches at its Demon Deli.
Thank you for your support and Happy Holidays!
