Miller Enterprises

No, it’s not “The Apprentice”, but learning about business in a real-life setting has come to Miller Middle School.  Offered as Miller’s newest exploratory, Miller Enterprises integrates real world business skills with personal responsibilities.  This new elective is based on a student-run company, Miller Enterprises, which will offer a coffee/beverage and breakfast service for teachers/staff and a student store.  Bean Me Up Café and Miller Merchandise are now up and running as our students learn the basics of starting and running a business, the job application and interview process, and on the job training.  In addition to learning about the ins and outs of entrepreneurship, students will engage in authentic and meaningful activities that promote teamwork, personal accountability, life skills, and leadership.  An emphasis on service learning, with field trips to local businesses and community service, will be implemented as opportunities for learning related to our business.

The class is open to any 7th or 8th graders.  Any student wishing to join the ranks of Miller Enterprises is invited to fill out a job application approximately two weeks prior to the beginning of a new quarter.  The application process includes two recommendations from Miller teachers/staff and a job interview.  Job applications can be obtained from Deb Worthy, John Lawson, or Katie Parkinson.  Please contact Katie Parkinson if you need additional information or have any questions at 247-1418, ext. 2545.
